Android: SMS via MNF

Print PDF

I was looking for an easy way for mobile phones to send SMS through MyNetFone, an Australian Voip service Provider. Because there was no program that I could find suitable, I created a program on the android platform (while learning the language) and called it "SMS via MNF.

About

SMS can be sent normally through MyNetfone by logging onto the portal at https://www.mynetfone.com.au/ and going to "MyText SMS". However, logging into this via a mobile phone is not only hard (because of the small screen size, it uses precious kilobytes of data transfer.

Thankfully MyNetFone has made available their MyText SMS API which allows you to send an SMS using you MyNetFone account be requesting a URL. This allowed be to create a simple HTML form to send SMS (which can be used by non-smart-phones) through MyNetFone. Because of the nature of a HTML form, data could not be saved and so it defeated the purpose, as you need to login to the portal if you don't carry the details with you.

I therefore endeavoured to learn the Android programming language (which is based on Java) and at the same time create a simple SMS sender.

Decription of "SMS via MNF"

SMS via MNF is a simple SMS sender that allows you to send SMS through your MyNetFone account. It stores your account settings so you do not have to remember them. It provides feedback as to whether the SMS was sucessfully sent or not.

The code for SMS via MNF is licenced under the GPL 3 and is available here

If you liked my program, please donate, as I would like some money in order to get this app onto the official android market (which requires a $25 payment to get started).
