Translation-en_AU keeps failing

E-mail Print PDF

I kept having the problem of when I did an "apt-get update" or "aptitude update" (or even using update manager / synaptic to update the package lists), apt would keep on trying to download the packages for Translation-en_AU. And they would keep failing, not only increasing the time it took to run an update, but also confusing you about whether it was working properly (and you had too keep telling yourself that it as alright for these packages to fail.

SD card suddenly mounted as read-only

E-mail Print PDF

I checked the lock on the side of the card and it was off (if it is on, then the card will be read only, no matter what you do with our OS). This problem also applies to thumb drives, etc (though probably not the lock thing) - any FAT formatted drives.

Using Ubuntu 8.04, though it would probably apply to all versions of Linux

pulseaudio: connection refused

E-mail Print PDF

I killed pulseaudio. Now I cannot get it back working. when I go into the manager, I get

Failed to connect: Connection refused

I am running Ubuntu Herdy Heron (Will probably work on both 64 and 32 bit)

Fix: Run

pulseaudio -D

in terminal, and it should me right or display an error message. If it displayer an error message, try restarting your whole computer and then as soon as you log-in, run the command. (Be sure not to play any music beforehand).
